Exhibitions at The Octagon 18 September - 3 October Somerset Art Weeks 2010 Following the success of their first event FUSED, the Young Art Promoters (YAP) are at it once again. YAP are a diverse group between the ages 11 and 19 who have come together from across the county to promote creative opportunities to the young people of Somerset. With the support of Spaeda and SAW, this season, YAP will be taking over the Octagon as part of Somerset Arts Weeks Open Studios Event. Showcasing and celebrating the visual art and media work of young people from across Somerset. The exhibition highlights the talents of local and aspiring artists. The Art Group meets in the Johnson Studio on the first Tuesday of the month for demonstrations by leading artists based in the South-West. There are also painting sessions every term-time Monday, 2-4 pm, at Birchfield Community Hall. Why not join us? 28 October - 2 January Stopmotion Chris Nash brings a selection of 30 images from the international touring exhibition 'Stopmotion' to the Octagon, featuring photographs of The Cholmondeleys, Richard Alston Dance Company, The Featherstonehaughs, Motionhouse and Phoenix. After graduating with a BA (hons) in Fine Art from Goldsmiths School Of Art, Chris has built a reputation as "our most imaginative interpreter of dance" (The Guardian) and has held over 60 exhibitions of his Dance photographs in 19 different countries. His work has had such an impact on contemporary dance in England that he is the recipient of a Dance Umbrella/Time Out Award, the inscription of which reads; 'For helping to make the face of dance more recognisable, this award is made to photographer extraordinaire Chris Nash' "Nash's pictures have played an integral part in making dance look daring, glamorous and dangerously beautiful.
