The Octagon Theatre has announced that the charities they will be raising money for over the course of their 2018/19 pantomime production, Aladdin, are the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and The Foyer Club.
The Octagon Theatre welcomed over 29,500 people during the festive period of 2017/18 to see their professional pantomime production of Cinderella. This year looks to be another busy season with over 9,000 tickets already sold for Aladdin – early booking is advisable for the best seats. As well as watching the production, at the end of every performance patrons are invited to add a contribution to the theatre’s annual bucket collection which, this year, will be in aid of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and The Foyer Club.
The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance launched in 2000 and have since flown more than 12,500 missions as part of the normal ‘999’ emergency process. In a single day the service can attend up to eight or nine incidents, providing relief from sickness and injury for the people of Dorset and Somerset. The registered charity receives no direct funding from the Government or the National Lottery and so relies upon the generosity of the public for support. With operational costs of over £2.5 million a year fundraising is crucial.
The Foyer Club are our team of volunteer Front of House stewards at The Octagon Theatre. In 2014 they became a registered charity in order to support the development of the arts locally. The Foyer Club are the people who take your tickets and lead you to your seats, the ones who will sell you your ice creams and the people who act as safety stewards for every performance. To date they have raised over £93,000 in support of the arts locally.
Each year during the pantomime season, the theatre supports local charities and good causes and over the last 4 years alone over £14,500 has been raised through the generosity of Christmas visitors to the venue.
Adam Burgan, Arts & Entertainment Manager, said, “We are excited to announce this year’s pantomime bucket collection charities. Each year we are blown away by the support and generosity of our fantastic patrons and visitors, helping us to raise funds for so many worthy causes. This year, we are delighted to be raising money for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance – an incredible service that we are lucky to have – and The Foyer Club – who offer fantastic support to the arts locally.”
Lara Battersby, Communications Officer for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, said: “Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is delighted to have been selected as one of the chosen beneficiaries for this year’s pantomime bucket collection. The Charity operates 365 days a year and with each mission costing approximately £3,000, we are grateful to receive support from fundraising initiatives such as this.”
Join The Octagon Theatre this Christmas for their latest pantomime production, Aladdin, and donate to their 2018/19 charitable bucket collection to help the venue raise as much as possible for these local causes.
