A new season of shows at The Octagon Theatre and Westlands is now on sale, as we reveal our winter/spring line-up with plenty to keep you entertained over the colder months and lots to look forward to in 2019.
As thoughts turn to Christmas presents, we also have a great selection of shows and people are increasingly opting to give tickets and the experience of live performance rather than DVDs, socks and novelty gifts!
Let’s start with comedy – as one of the most popular strands of our programme and fastest selling! Following sell-out performances this season from Chris Ramsey, Sara Pascoe and Dylan Moran, you’ll need to be quick to snap up tickets for Paul Merton on Friday 3rd May with his Impro Chums. The fabulous Julian Clary returns to the Octagon on Thursday 23rd May while at Westlands on the same night you can see the hugely popular German comic Henning When. Also at Westlands we welcome Carl Hutchinson, who following his fantastic warm-up set for Chris Ramsey, is back with his solo show on Thursday 21st March. The host of BBC 2’s ‘Mash Report’, Nish Kumar, brings his stand-up show to Westlands on Sunday 31st March. In April we look forward to plenty of laughs with Mark Steel at The Octagon on Thursday 11th. ‘The Landlord’, Al Murray, returns to The Octagon on Friday 28th June and Mark Watson brings his new show on Saturday 9th November. Looking ahead we are excited to welcome Ardal O’Hanlon to Westlands on Saturday 7th December 2019. The star of ‘Death in Paradise’, ‘Father Ted’, and ‘My Hero’ makes a welcome return to his stand-up roots.
The hit movie ‘The Greatest Showman’ has seen the soundtrack for the film dominating the album charts for months and now we are presenting the ‘Sing-A-Long-A’ version with the lyrics on the big screen so everyone can join in. With the fancy dress competition, goody bag on arrival and interactive host it is sure to be plenty of fun for a matinee and evening performance on Saturday 23rd February.
We are welcoming back some of our most popular shows including Irish dance spectacular – ‘Spirit of the Dance’, ‘Abba Mania’, ‘The Searchers’, ‘Killer Queen’, ‘Jive Talkin’, ‘The Little Mix Experience’, and ‘The Manfreds’. For folk fans we look forward to BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner ‘The Youngun’s’ and book quick for the brilliant Seth Lakeman who always sells out.
We are incredibly excited to welcome Welsh National Opera, yes! The Welsh National Opera (WNO) will be visiting Somerset on Thursday 11th July to perform a riotous new version of Donizetti’s classic comic opera – ‘Don Pasquale’. Opera lovers can see one of the UK’s best opera companies at The Octagon rather than make the normal trip to Bristol or Cardiff. Set in and around Pasquale’s doner kebab van, it’s the story of an old bachelor’s romantic delusions and the young lovers who outwit him. Don Pasquale brings together a cast of larger-than-life characters, including Pasquale’s young nephew Ernesto and his girlfriend Norina, as well as local geezer Malatesta and his travelling band who hang around Pasquale’s kebab van after their long nights of boozing. World class opera on the Octagon stage – this is such a coup and we know our audiences will give a warm welcome to WNO.
