Wassail and The Octagon Theatre Yeovil have teamed up to produce a new story celebrating the power of human connection and the communities that surround us.
Apples & Angels is an all new, open air promenade production that takes place among the idyllic orchards of Burrow Hill, home of the Somerset Cider Brandy Company in Kingsbury Episcopi, on the edge of the Somerset Levels.
Apples & Angels has been written by Wassail’s Artistic Director Nick White and features a community cast who will be performing alongside an ensemble of professional actors. The community cast includes young people from Huish Episcopi, Langport, Martock, Kingsbury Episcopi, Yeovil, Crewkerne and Ilchester, and other local residents of all ages!
In the story, Pete is organising a wedding for the Mallard family at Burrow Hill but the bride has disappeared! Two years ago to the day, Pete married Babs in a glorious, tragic wedding where something similar happened. Today Muriel, Pete and Babs find themselves at the bottom of Burrow Hill, looking for the things they’ve lost and so much more.
Can Lil help them before the spirits of the orchard converge and it’s all too late?
Among the show’s creative team are regular Wassail collaborators Joanna Procter (Director) and Julie Read (Designer), as well as Wassail first-timer Ellie Showering (Composer - Insane Root, Bristol Old Vic). The show is produced by Joseph Cullen and the professional cast includes David Reakes, Imogen Smith, Leela Bunce, Lucy Harrington and Richard Holt.
Performances will take place come rain or shine, and will comply with the latest Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines.

Over the past five years, Wassail has been taking audiences on magical storytelling adventures through Pete & Ivan’s Tours of Somerset: via horse-drawn carts, three-wheel bikes and on foot. This is the final chapter of Pete Steel’s story, and the start of a whole new adventure. Audiences don’t need to have seen Pete’s previous stories to enjoy this one, but you can find out more about Pete’s productions including The Somerset Charabanc at www.wassailtheatre.co.uk.
Apples & Angels has been made possible with public funding from South Somerset District Council; Huish Episcopi Parish Council; Yeovil Town Council and the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Praise for previous Wassail productions:
"Stories for all ages: entertaining, teaching, delighting” The Fine Times Recorder
"Truly unique, immersive theatre experiences that capture the imagination of everyone" Somerset Cool

This summer, Burrow Hill has been colourfully animated by live performances from Pirates of the Carabina, the Bullzini Family and a whole host of others. Wassail Theatre Company is thrilled to be able to bring some innovative immersive theatre to this beautiful venue.
