At The Octagon and Westlands we are fortunate to have the support and loyalty of so many friends and colleagues. It is the people that make a place special and make a venue come to life – and recently we lost one of those very special people. I am sorry to tell you that our Chairman of The Foyer Club and friend, Brian Morgan, passed away on 25th May.
When the news came through many of the staff were at Westlands and we felt it appropriate to announce Brian’s passing and join together to raise a glass in his honour. Brian is the only Chairman of the Foyer Club I have known. For the last nine years he has been a steadfast support and a pleasure to work with but we know his loyal support for The Octagon, from both him and his wife Carol (who is also a member of The Foyer Club), goes back many years.
Brian was a true gentleman: kind, good humoured and he never forgot his ‘northern roots’. He was a superb Chairman for The Foyer Club – during his time as Chairman the club grew in numbers, gained charitable status, strived to improve the service given to our guests and supported The Octagon and Westlands in more ways and at more events every year. Under his careful and considered leadership The Foyer Club has thrived and is stronger today than ever. The Foyer Club are our friends and Brian always nurtured a supportive, inclusive and cooperative approach to working together to make our audience’s visit a wonderful experience. Over his years of work Brian will have greeted thousands of audience members and, in his commitment to The Foyer Club and The Octagon, he will have spent countless hours supporting us.
The Foyer Club do so much for us at both venues; from welcoming our guests and audiences, taking tickets and showing people to their seats, selling ice creams and sweets to fundraising and helping to distribute brochures. We simply wouldn’t survive without them and last year they volunteered an incredible 12,767 hours across both venues. Brian has been leading The Foyer Club as Chairman since 2009. We will all miss his sense of humour, his Christmas jumpers, and his command of the New Year’s beetle drive. Brian’s contribution and dedication to our venues and The Foyer Club cannot be overstated and even when he was very poorly he continued to show great care about The Foyer Club and our venues. He will be greatly missed by us all and we will work to maintain his legacy of success. Brian cared greatly about the members of The Foyer Club and all the staff. Always polite, ready with a smile and a ‘let’s get on with it’ attitude, Brian taught us a lot and was exemplary in his leadership and delivering his duties.
The Octagon, Westlands and The Foyer Club will forever be better places for his work and we will be better people for having known him. Thank you Brian for everything you’ve done for us. We will never forget you or the contribution you have made.
We will remember Brian with great affection and it makes me think and appreciate all those volunteers across our community who give their time and energy to make other people’s lives that little bit better.
