Our new brochure is out, containing details of shows and events through to July and, for the first time, our brochure is now covering both events at The Octagon Theatre and Westlands. The new brochure is packed with shows and events to pick from and we hope you’ll be spoilt for choice for things to see and do.
Westlands has opened up a new range of events for us and that will continue to grow as the venue becomes more established and our audience builds. The Box Office has been busy with bookings and now around 60% of our bookings are made online. Some of the highlights for me are a fantastic comedy programme with a host of top names and variety of comedy styles: Joel Dommet, Rich Hall, Jasper Carrott, Jon Richardson, Lee Nelson, Chris Ramsey, Henning When, Brian Conley, Reginald D Hunter and The All-Star Stand-Up Tour with four great comics on one night – Jarred Christmas, Stewart Francis, Justin Moorhouse and Jim Tavare. Our comedy programme keeps growing stronger and ever more popular.
For fans of live music there are some great concerts to look out for from X Factor winner Sam Bailey, to Brit Award-Winners Blake, folk superstar Kate Rusby, Irish star Nathan Carter to the voice of Clannad Moya Brennan. The Manfreds are back by popular demand as are Sons of Pitches and Collabro. Our themed nights at Westlands will certainly get the party started with live performances at Poptastic from S Club, Five, East17 Big Brovaz and Booty Luv, while Back to the 80s will see live performances from Cheryl, Mike and Jay of Eurovision winners Bucks Fizz and 80s star Sonia. Disco Heaven will see the biggest disco party in town and live performances from The Real Thing and Odyssey.
We want Westlands to be the place where people have a great time and with Yeovil Beer Festival returning to the venue and Somerset Gin Festival announced we’re on course for a fantastic time.
It is going to be a busy season but for a little extra challenge (well, in for a penny and all that) the team at The Octagon thought it would be fun to put on a show to raise funds for our associate charity – The Foyer Club who support The Octagon. Sean, our Operations Manager, and I worked on a musical comedy called I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change which I performed in and Sean was Stage Manager for when we staged it at a previous venue where we worked.
It’s a funny musical revue for a small cast of four that explores relationships in a touching and humorous way. We thought it was time to stage the show in Yeovil and The Swan Theatre would be the perfect, more intimate venue for the show. This summer from 25 – 29th July we’ll stage the show with Sean directing and producing the show while I’ll be one of the performers along with Jennifer Holland-Brewer, Cameron Isherwood and Ellie Driver. We’ve persuaded the superbly talented Matthew Holmes to be our Musical Director and are excited to be staging the show.
Tickets are now on sale from The Octagon Box Office and we hope the production will raise a good amount of money for The Foyer Club. Learning my lines might prove a challenge as I’m concerned my brain might be full! I’ll keep you posted how I get on!
