Join illustrator Jill Newton as she takes you on a journey of discovery and drawing using books as your inspiration.

Jill, born in Newcastle, now living in the Southwest completed a foundation at Lincoln College of Art before attending Cambridge to study illustration, focusing on her love of children’s books. She then embarked on her career as an illustrator, working in the fields of publishing, advertising and editorial and has worked on many wide and varied projects, from editorial pieces for the Financial Times to designing soft toys for Jelly Cat! Her passion is for children’s books and Jill has made a career illustrating over 150 books, as well as having over 20 of her own stories published worldwide.

Jill will run two workshops:

10:30am-12noon for 8 – 12 year olds
Our young illustrators will have the opportunity to develop a book character and work on it’s potential: Where does it live?, What is its unique trait?, What is it’s favourite meal?, What is its name and Who is its best friend/ nemesis?

1-2:30pm for 13 – 18 year olds
Older participants will have the opportunity to explore different book covers, looking at ways illustrators draw you in to the story before having a go at creating their very own book cover.

The workshops will be fully inclusive and accessible with an emphasis on self-expression, parents and carers are very welcome (and encouraged) to join in too!

Times and Ages: 10:30am-12noon for 8 – 12 year olds and 1-2:30pm for 13 – 18 year olds

In order to reduce time spent at the beginning of the session please book your place on this activity in advance. Places are limited and we do not accept reservations, so arriving on the day may result in disappointment. Booking in advance also helps our workshop leaders to prepare your session and plan for any additional access needs you may have ahead of time.
